Imams are among the leaders in Muslim community and they are recognized as the spiritual backbone of every Muslim communities. World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) Malaysia through this initiative is devoted to provide the requisite skills and knowledge for developing a professional imams, taking place at Latihan Islam Malaysia (ILIM), Bangi. With ‘Lead to Inspire’ as the theme, Asia Pacific Imam’s Professionalism Course (IPC); is attended by imams who are inspired to improve their skills.
Organized by WAMY Malaysia, the training is made possible with the cooperation from co-organizers such as ILIM and WAMY Australia & South Pacific.
WAMY, as an international youth NGO organizes IPC to cultivate a sound, sensible and civic imams with basic knowledge of Shariah and Quran. WAMY also aims to equip the imams with a requisite managerial and personal skills.
Allah in Quran said: “Nor should the Believers all go forth together: if a contingent from every expedition remained behind, they could devote themselves to studies in religion, and admonish the people when they return to them,- that thus they (may learn) to guard themselves (against evil).)”. (Surah at-Taubah, verse 122)
The imams will be trained with seminars, workshops, visitations, mentoring program and outdoor activities.
Among the local preachers that will be involved in training these imams are Muhammad Nicholas Sylvester (Hidayah Centre Foundation) and Mohd Hafiz Abd Hamid (Hafiz Bai). Whilst the organizations that will be visited by the imams to gain knowledge as well as to gather as much experience as possible are Islamic Relief Malaysia (IRM), Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (MACMA), JAKIM and a few chosen masjid in Klang Valley.
It is hoped that IPC will be successful in injected the necessary and needed value in order to improve the quality of leadership among Muslim youth in the world.
